Midtown, Manhattan, NY – Sanitation Truck Hits and Critically Injures Bicyclist

Midtown, Manhattan, NY (October 30, 2018) – A serious injury accident has been reported involving a private sanitation truck and a bicyclist on Monday night, October 29. The accident, which occurred in the very same day that the NYPD announced a crackdown on garbage truck driving safety, took place on 5th Avenue near 47th Street.

According to police, the collision happened as the 43-year-old bicyclist had been riding southbound along 5th Avenue at around 10:00 p.m. Around this time, a private sanitation truck was reported to have struck the bicyclist for reasons that are currently unknown.

Police immediately arrived at the scene along with paramedics who rushed the victim to NY Presbyterian Hospital for treatment. The severely injured bicyclist was listed in critical condition, however, they are also considered stable.

Authorities reported that the driver of the truck who hit the victim remained at the scene and fully cooperated with authorities. No further details have been provided at this time, as police are continuing their investigation into this incident.
