Staten Island, NY – Hazmat Incident Results in Multiple Injuries at Oakwood Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant

Staten Island, NY (October 30, 2018) – According to the FDNY, an incident at the Oakwood Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant resulted in multiple minor injuries on Tuesday afternoon, October 30. The hazmat incident was reported to have taken place at around 2:00 p.m. as emergency crews arrived on the scene approximately ten minutes later.

The initial reports called the accident a contamination incident, although there has been no word as to how the mishap occurred. Seven people altogether were immediately treated for minor injuries after the accident.

According to a spokeswoman from the FDNY, the incident had been placed under control by 2:53 p.m., although emergency personnel were continuing to investigate for further exposure. No further information has been available as the New York City Department of Environmental Protection has not spoken about the incident at this time.
