Hamden, NY – Truck Driver Killed After Tractor-Trailer Crash on Highway 10
Hamden, NY (January 30, 2019) – A man was tragically killed in a truck accident after the tractor-trailer he was driving crashed and overturned on Tuesday night, January 29. According to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at around 7:30 p.m. along Highway 10 in the town of Hamden for reasons that have not been confirmed.
Authorities stated that the truck driver, identified as 77-year-old James L. Updyke, of Homer, had been heading north when the truck failed to negotiate a curve properly and subsequently veered off the road. The tractor-trailer continued to strike a utility pole and a tree before overturning.
The crash which occurred near East River Road prompted responses from police and emergency crews who arrived at the crash site to find Updyke severely injured. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Police are likely to be continuing an investigation into the events that led to this incident in an effort to determine what caused the crash.
