Deerfield, NY – Man Killed and Child Injured in Accident on State Route 8

Deerfield, NY (April 30, 2019) – On Monday afternoon, April 29, a motor vehicle accident with serious injuries was reported on State Route 8 in the town of Deerfield, according to authorities. Tragically, the driver of a 2004 Ford pickup truck involved in the crash, identified as Gerald G. Cady, 79, of Cold Brook, was pronounced dead a little less than four hours later at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

According to officials, State Police was summoned to the crash site along Route 8 at approximately 2:04 p.m. Authorities stated that the pickup truck, operated by Cady, went off the roadway for unknown reasons and subsequently struck a tree. Cady had an unidentified 7-year-old child in the truck at the time of the accident.

Emergency medical crews extricated Cady from the truck and he was promptly airlifted to the hospital in critical condition. Cady passed away from his injuries and the injured child was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for treatment. The child’s injuries are classified as non-life-threatening at this time. Authorities are continuing to investigate the events that to this incident.
