East Patchogue, NY – Bicyclist Struck and Killed by Hit-and-Run Motorist
East Patchogue, NY (April 29, 2019) – Authorities are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that took place between a bicyclist and a motor vehicle early on Sunday morning, April 28, in the town of East Patchogue. Police say that the collision occurred along Montauk Highway in the vicinity of Gazzola Drive at around 4:30 a.m.
According to authorities, 30-year-old Alexis Velasquez was riding his bicycle along Montauk Highway when he was struck by a gray or silver Nissan SUV for unknown reasons. The driver of the vehicle did not stop to offer assistance or cooperate with police but fled the scene instead. Police arrived at the crash site to find Velasquez down on the roadway. He was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives are currently searching for the above-described vehicle, which is likely to have front-end damage. Anyone with any information is being asked to contact the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6553.
