Copiague, NY – Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Merrick Road Parking Lot

Copiague, NY (June 15, 2019) – According to police, a fatal pedestrian accident took place in Merrick Road in a parking lot. The vehicle involved had been allegedly backing out of a parking space.

Several witnesses saw the person back out directly onto the woman. They ran over and immediately attempted to lift the vehicle off the woman before emergency responders arrived at the scene. The woman, however, was not breathing.

Paramedics immediately took the victim to the hospital but she tragically passed away while there.

Police confirmed that the accident happened when the driver stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake. They have not filed any charges and the investigation continues at this time.
